Hi, I’m Melissa!
As an executive resume writer, I built my own diverse career on my ability to persuade, inform, and delight readers.
From writing winning grants that funded workforce development programming to crafting training proposals for executive leaders and authoring how-to manuals that explained complicated regulations to small business owners, I sift through complex, multi-layered information to articulate the essence of a message.
A passion for discovery that shaped a non-linear career
I moved to Mexico immediately after graduating from college. Just weeks before my tourist visa was set to expire, I received a job offer to teach English to adults in Cancun’s most well-known school.
After five years, I returned to the U.S. and, not surprisingly, secured a job teaching English to adults. This led to incredibly rewarding roles establishing and directing workforce development and job readiness programs for at-risk youth and ex-offenders.
Twice rocked by the uncertainty that layoffs bring, I let the fear of the unknown fuel my reinvention.
After funding cuts eliminated my nonprofit management role, I pivoted into human resources. I quickly found what I thought was my professional home, leading organizational learning initiatives for a multibillion-dollar privately held company with a footprint across the U.S. However, a business downturn spurred several cycles of layoffs and I was on the market once again.
Another path opened unexpectedly and I dove headfirst into public service.
Joining Rhode Island’s statewide drinking water quality program, I oversaw certification and training of all drinking water operators, from front-line staff to senior management and engineers. I was the bridge between highly specialized engineers, scientists, and the public and translated complex, technical information into accessible content for lay people.
Career branding is the thread woven through my own narrative
Initially a small side hustle to bring in extra funds as I looked for a full-time role, resume writing blossomed into my passion.
Since 2015, I’ve written interview-winning documents for some of the nation’s most respected resume writing companies and formed multi-year partnerships as the go-to-writer for executive coaches.
